The daily work in P.N.S.A.C. (in autumn-winter)
I was guided around in Cuckoo’s Farm (to check the donkey, goats, old dog and chickens ...)
The mentor (Rui Cordeiro) gave information about a bat project in one of the caves.
My duty for the afternoon was inventorying speleology equipment ( helmets, lamps, dynamic ropes, …) and reparing old MTB’s to provide easy transport of volunteers. That evening, our team for october got completed. We had a reception of STV (short term volunteers) of Poland in Batalha.
3th of October

- Donkey ride
Ambrioso, the donkey, had to be trained for carrying materials and passengers (by Armelle, a horse specialist). Several volunteers tried to sit on Ambrosios back !
-Registrating
Later that day, the registration in ‘camara municipal de Porto De Mos’ had to be done.
Employees in a municipality are incredibly slow, in Portugal, to type eight numbers on a keypad, two employees and 5 minutes are required. But if y're European volunteer, you have time to watch and learn, it doesn't matter at all. Astonishing that 'Volunteer' is not a state as citizen of Serro Ventoso. But finally I got classified as an unqualified employed citizen of Serro Ventoso finally, I can go to vote here ;-). Incredible !Later that day, the registration in ‘camara municipal de Porto De Mos’ had to be done.
Evening : Outside Swimming pool appeared to be still hot enough in October, which is incredible.
October the 4th
-Landscape
Allthough it's logical that you get used to a landscape and daily situation, this pearl 'Bezerra, Sierra de Aire e Candeiros' convinces me that life is to beautiful on this planet. The stone walls, mountain hills, ...
This village is always quite, everyone knows eachother, only troubles of hunting once in a week. Astonishing
There are as many things you won't learn as a student living in modernised cities, as there are things you won't learn as a primitive farmer in rural places. Learning to train a donkey to carry materials, harvesting honey from bees, ... all these skills have a value.
I'll be working with architect software to draw cut-throughs of caves in these surroundings and mark their coordinates on a map. All kinds of caves you can encounter here, with or without exit, with or without waterfalls ...
January the 29th and the 30th
-Biological products
Biological production if products is another part of the work. From lemons, oranges and pumpkin we can make jam. This requires some time.
The countreyside implies that we live in a sustainable way. We have to prepare our firewoods ourselves.
