The Work -Participation in education - Leiria, Porto de Mos, Marinha Grande

The 16th of October

VERTIGEM works together with some schools in Marinha Grande and Leiria. Basically, the aim is to show  the presence of volunteers from many European countries and give students an idea of EVS-life in VERTIGEM and the possibilities of international volunteering. These schools are used to send groups on "environmental excursions" in the summer holidays and this way, the contact between VERTIGEM and the schools is maintained and the children catch a glimpse of what´s happening in the mountains of Bezerra.

Our Polish volunteer Monica Klis presented the system of the EU, the advantages of the european citizenship and I have to admit that I was surprised about the knowledge of these kids. At the age of 6 I didn´t know all these English words ... The teachers submitted the task of translating everything to Portuguese, but sometimes they were unemployed (because the kids understood it already)...

Also, a purpose is encouraging youngsters for international volunteering. A general presentation of a country, as I did for Belgium, and Marilyn , Armelle, Kasha and Monica for Estonia, France and Poland respectively is a unique chance to make them curious about volunteering. I gave it a try in Portuguese but translating everything straight from the English powerpoint was impossible. Learning a new language takes loads of time ...

To give a special touch to our appearance in Leiria and Marinha Grande, we gave them the taste from our country. The 15th october, the day of food (dia de alimentaçao), an excellent oppurtunity to make things together with the students of communication and tourism. Armelle prepared a pie while I fried some apple beignets and the students could watch and learn . The same time, Marilyn gave a home- made sauercreme pie to the children of Leiria. Only problem was that the teachers ate aproximately half of the pie before the children  had touched it even ...

Other presentations in the near future  ? Polonia and Turkia !

Monica and Kasha gave us 'a taste from Poland'. We had to listen carefully this time ... but at least we learned to say 'djenkuwe'.

7th of March - marinha grande

Ruben Severino made a beautiful presentation about SVE, the guys from Turkey presented some dynamics about Turkey.

14th of March - Porto de Mos

During the week of european citizenship, Marilyn and me, we presented some cultural aspects such as dancing and music. I made a boardgame about facts and figures in Belgium, after this presentation we started with a dancing workshop, 't Smidje from Laïs, dance it baby !

May the 28th - Kids in the farm

This guy, Elidio, is our support for guiding kids around with donkey-cars.
